Margarete Steiff Museum Giengen near Ulm
(1st prize in competition)

Following a competition between invited participants, Ramseier & Associates Ltd. was commissioned to plan the new Margarete Steiff Museum in Giengen near Ulm. The concrete, formalistic essence of the elliptic yet slightly conical main structure recalls the pragmatism of Richard Serra’s steel sculptures. The museum, which covers 2,400 sq.m and cost 10 million euros, takes the firm’s history as its main theme. The building also features a section demonstrating production methods, a restaurant and a museum shop.

The museum was completed punctually in the spring of 2005, in time for celebrations to mark the 125th anniversary of the world-famous ”Button in Ear” toy manufacturer. In the autumn of 2005 Ramseier & Associates Ltd. received the Exemplary Construction Award which is presented by the Chamber of Architecture of the Federal State of Baden-Württemberg.
